I am a doula and lactation counselor, student midwife, happy wife & mama, and resident joke-teller, face-maker, cookie baker, story teller, lullaby singer, and tear kisser for my children. I grew up in Florida, climbing orange trees and catching sand fleas. Over the past 10 years I've lived in a lot of other places but now that I'm raising a family of my own I am overjoyed to be making our nest in the Sunshine State and supporting other Tampa Bay area families to do the same.
My background is in the arts, but I have found my greatest inspiration in motherhood. I heard the very loud call to support other mothers after beginning my own journey to parenthood and began serving as a doula in 2009 in busy birthy New York City. I trained and certified with DONA International. Continuing education is a priority for me, and I've attended trainings with midwives Ina May Gaskin, Elizabeth Davis, Gail Hart, Mary Cooper, Racha Tahani Lawler, Karen Strange, and other inspiring perinatal professionals. I am a Certified Lactation Counselor and am studying to become a Florida Licensed Midwife with Jennie Joseph at the Commonsense Childbirth School of Midwifery.
I have collaborated with organizations like Childbirth Connection and Choices in Childbirth, and in an attempt to practice my creativity beyond arts & crafts with my own kids, I occasionally contribute words to birth & parenting publications and enjoy partnering with friends and colleagues on community-building projects. Outside of birth, my interests are traveling, art, comedy, yoga, and holistic nutrition.
I believe in the nature of birth and parenting, the strength of women and all families, and the value of strong support during the awesome transition to new parenthood. I hold close to my heart that a family will always remember the way they were made to feel during their birth and new parenting experience, however it unfolds.
As a birth and postpartum doula, I support families at home, in birth centers, and at all hospitals in the Tampa Bay Area.
