Prenatal Care

Pregnancy care takes place in the comfort of your home (or at the park, beach, or nature trail if you wish) on an evidence based schedule—every 4 weeks until 28 weeks, then every 2 weeks until 36 weeks, and then weekly until birth. Home visits are 30-60 minutes each and include wellness counseling, vital signs and pregnancy growth assessment, routine diagnostic lab tests, access to lending library and resources, and planning for birth. I utilize nutrition and herbal remedies whenever possible, and have access to collaborative providers for consult and pharmaceutical treatments as needed.

Home Birth

Continuous labor and birth support has been studied to improve outcomes in every birth setting. The comfort of home allows for unlimited movement, food & drink in labor, the use of hydrotherapy through shower, bath, and water birth tubs, and limited interventions that support the physiological process of birth. Intermittent fetal heart rate and maternal vital signs monitoring, as well as progress and risk assessment help keep home birth safe. I carry sterile birth instruments, neonatal and adult resuscitation equipment, IV fluids and supplies, suturing kit, medications as needed (antibiotics, anti-hemorrhagics, vitamin K and erythromycin eye ointment) as well as herbal tinctures for support. While Licensed Midwives are trained to manage common complications, transfers are sometimes needed for a variety of reasons, most non-emergent. When transfer for medical assistance is appropriate, we are thankful to be supported by local hospitalist teams.

Postpartum & Newborn Care

Postpartum support is one of the biggest differences between community midwifery and conventional clinical care. After your homebirth, you and your baby are observed and supported while you bond. I assist with feeding, observe and monitor vital signs, await your placenta, and cut the umbilical cord when you are ready. Initial newborn assessments are done in your arms. I make sure you are comfortable, assess for any lacerations, repair with sutures and local anesthetic if needed, and get your family/support team to work preparing you a meal. I do a complete newborn exam which is sent to your pediatrician, and you will follow up with them in the first days of life to begin care for your baby. I continue to be on call for you during the postpartum period, following up with a home visit in the first 24-48 hours for newborn screening and continued maternal assessment. I remain available by phone or visit in the first week for lactation support, and we have full postpartum visits scheduled at 2 and 6 weeks. I file your birth certificate, and can help connect you to resources like Healthy Start, postpartum doulas, or lactation specialists.

Fees & Insurance

The fee for complete prenatal, homebirth, and postpartum care is $8000. I am not currently in network with Medicaid or private insurance companies, but depending on availability am sometimes able to offer a family income based sliding scale to increase access to care. When my schedule & capacity allows, I am open to payment plans, bartering, and other creative compensation solutions for dedicated families when possible, or will help you find a provider whose practice is able to best support your situation.  I can assist you in submitting an itemized bill to your health insurance for reimbursement if your plan has verified out of network benefits.
